What identification do I need to prove that I’m a veteran?

Active-duty military personnel, National Guard reservists, and military retirees can use their military ID cards to access Veterans Day discounts. Veterans who receive health benefits from the VA can use their VA benefits photo ID card at most businesses as proof of veteran status.

The VA offers a Veterans ID Card program if you still need a VA benefits card. Honorably discharged veterans can apply online and receive a card by mail. The card serves as proof of service and is widely accepted by most businesses.

Some states allow veterans to include their veteran status on state ID cards and driver’s licenses, providing an additional form of identification.

Most businesses recognize the DD-214 as valid proof of service if all else fails.
